For this, a plan is being made to provide subsidy under Electric Vehicle Policy 2.0. This means that now there is no compulsion to sell the old car but there will be a chance to convert the same car into an EV and put it on the road again. Delhi government is now giving money to people to convert old petrol and diesel cars into EVs. The main objective of the government behind this entire scheme is to reduce air pollution in Delhi and rapidly promote electric vehicles. Till now people only had the option of buying scrap or new cars. But now the middle path is being opened.

At present the cost of converting a petrol or diesel car into electric reaches around Rs 4 to 5 lakh. This is the biggest problem. Therefore, the government wants to lighten this burden a bit by giving a subsidy of Rs 50 thousand. Even before this, financial assistance has been given under the scrap policy.

Who will get the benefit?

According to the information released by the Delhi government, in the initial phase, a proposal has been made to provide financial assistance of Rs 50 thousand to the first 1000 vehicle owners for converting petrol or diesel cars into electric ones. This facility will be for those people who want to convert their old cars into EVs instead of scrapping them.

At present this proposal has been sent to the Cabinet for approval. After getting approval, it will be kept in the public domain and suggestions will also be sought from the people.
