Best Way to Remove Wax from Apples at Home: One question that remains in people’s mind is whether there is wax on apples? The answer is yes. Apples naturally form a thin wax-like layer for their protection, which protects them from rain and drying. But when the fruits are washed after harvesting, this natural layer is removed to a great extent. After this, before sending it to the market, an additional layer of food-grade wax is applied by the farmers, so that the fruit does not spoil quickly, does not get injured and remains fresh for a longer time. According to dietitian Chelsea Edwards, this wax is safe to eat and does not cause any harm. It also helps in preserving the nutrients. However, many people do not like its smooth layer or texture, so they want to remove it and eat it.

According to thehansindia report, if you want to remove apple wax, then there are some easy ways to do it.

1. Boiling water method

The easiest way is to use boiling water. Boil water and with the help of a spoon, dip the apples in it for a few seconds. Keep in mind that the whole apple comes in contact with hot water. This makes the wax layer loose and you can easily wipe it with a clean cloth.

2. Vinegar solution

Vinegar is a natural cleaner. Mix one to two cups of white vinegar with cold water in a large bowl. Soak the apples in it for 5 to 10 minutes. Then rub lightly with hands and wash thoroughly with clean water. If vinegar is not available, lemon juice can also be used.

3. Baking soda solution

Baking soda has mild abrasive ability, which helps in removing the layer accumulated on the surface. Mix one spoon baking soda in two cups of water and soak the apples for about 15 minutes. Later wash in running water.

4. Washing in salt water

Take water in a vessel, add one spoon salt in it and rotate the apple in it for a few minutes. Then wash with fresh water and dry. This method is cheap and chemical free.

5. Scrape gently with a butter knife.

If the layer of wax on the surface of the apple appears too thick, then you can take the help of a butter knife. Hold the apple firmly and gently move the knife on the peel in such a way that only the top layer is removed and the pulp is not cut. Wash the apple thoroughly before scraping, this loosens the wax a bit and makes it easier to remove.

Is there wax on every apple?

The answer to this question is not necessary. Some apples, especially unwaxed or organic apples, do not have additional coating. However, such apples can spoil quickly.
