A big controversy has arisen regarding police action in Hubli, Karnataka. Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has alleged that policemen of Keshwapur police station beat up and misbehaved with a woman party worker during her custody. A video related to this incident has surfaced, in which the woman’s clothes are seen torn and policemen are seen standing surrounding her.
According to preliminary information, the complainant has been identified as Sujata alias Vijayalakshmi Handi. He was detained on the basis of a complaint lodged by Congress councilor Suvarna Kallakuntla. This complaint is said to be related to the earlier dispute between Congress and BJP workers during voter list revision in Keshwapur Rana area.
Sujata objected and protested
It is alleged that during the arrest, Sujatha objected and protested, after which the police allegedly beat her and also partially tore her clothes. It is being told that Sujata was earlier associated with Congress and joined BJP in recent years.
What is the root of the dispute?
The root of the controversy lies in the allegations that Sujata had helped the officials in removing the names of some voters from the list. However, he has denied these allegations. There were clashes between Congress and BJP workers regarding this issue. At present, no official statement has been issued by senior police officers regarding the alleged custodial abuse. The incident has further escalated political tension in the area, with both parties filing complaints against each other.
