A fire broke out in the cargo area of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport of Bangladesh’s capital Dhaka at around 3 pm on Saturday (18 October 2025). The situation became such that the airport authority had to stop all flights immediately. The route of the flight going from Delhi to Dhaka was changed and sent to Kolkata. Due to the flames in the cargo village of the airport, the sky was covered in smoke for kilometers.
Routes of many flights were diverted
According to the Dhaka Tribune report, the airport official said that the fire broke out in the cargo area of the airport at 2:15 pm. He told that due to this, routes of many flights were diverted and many were cancelled. Complete information about the cause of the fire and the damage has not been revealed yet.
According to Fire Service and Civil Defense, firefighting units reached the spot as soon as information about the fire was received. Later, fire units of Bangladesh Air Force and Navy also arrived to extinguish the fire. At present, no information has been revealed about any casualty in this incident.

9 planes diverted to Chittagong
Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB) officials said, firefighting units of the Air Force have also now joined the rescue operation. Landing and takeoff of all aircraft have been stopped. All planes are safe. At least 9 planes of different airlines landing in Dhaka have been diverted to Shah Amanat in Chittagong and Osmani International Airport in north-eastern Sylhet.
Third major fire incident within 5 days
Eyewitnesses said personnel of the Army, Air Force, Navy and Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) joined the fire fighting and rescue operations. This is the third major incident of fire in Bangladesh within five days. An eight-storey factory building in Chittagong was completely destroyed in a massive fire on Thursday (16 October 2025). Earlier on Tuesday (14 October 2025), 16 workers died and many others were injured in a fire in a four-storey textile factory and a chemical warehouse in Dhaka.
