Suspended Trinamool Congress leader Humayun Kabir has taken a U-turn from his statement. He said on Sunday (7 December 2025) that he will not resign from the post of MLA. This announcement of Kabir has come just a few days after his statement in which he had said that he will resign from the post of Trinamool Congress MLA from Bharatpur in Murshidabad district on December 8.

Bharatpur MLA Humayun Kabir while talking to the media said that I had announced that I will resign. However, people who voted for Yusuf Pathan as MP from Baharampur constituency of Murshidabad are unable to find him as he is never seen here. Many documents have to be signed, so people are telling me that I should not resign. He told me that I had been selected to work for his welfare. If I work for them they will vote for me again, so I will not resign for the people of Bharatpur.

When did Humayun Kabir turn?

This U-turn of the Trinamool leader came a day after laying the foundation stone of a mosque in Beldanga in Murshidabad district. As a result of this move, he was suspended from the Trinamool Congress. However, Trinamool Congress spokesperson Kunal Ghosh on Saturday clarified that Kabir was suspended not because of his desire to build a mosque, but for allegedly trying to spread religious fanaticism in the name of a religious event.

Humayun was about to resign on December 8

Humayun Kabir had said on December 4 that he would resign from the post of MLA by December 8 and would announce his new political party on December 22. Soon after the official announcement of West Bengal Urban Development Minister and Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) Mayor Firhad Hakim suspending Kabir from the party, Kabir said that I will resign from the post of Bharatpur MLA on Friday or Monday. After this I will announce my new political party on 22 December. My program on December 6 to lay the foundation stone of Babri Masjid at Beldanga in Murshidabad district will remain the same.

In the past, Kabir had been warned several times by the Trinamool Congress leadership for alleged anti-party activities and public comments causing embarrassment to the leadership. Now finally on Thursday, Trinamool Congress formally and clearly announced his suspension from the party.
