Such a terrible case has come to light in Attibele near Bengaluru, the capital of Karnataka, which has completely put humanity to shame. A husband, who had vowed to stay together for seven lives, gave his wife an injection of mercury to kill her. After this step taken by the husband, a long battle started with the death of his wife Vidya and Vidya, who fought for her life for nine months, lost the battle with death.
Actually, this story is of 30-year-old Vidya, living under the area of Attibele police station near Bengaluru. An ordinary housewife, but a woman in whose life a dreadful truth was hidden. Vidya had said in a statement given to the police before her death that her husband Basavaraj used to constantly taunt her by calling her crazy, keep her locked in the house and insult her. Not only this, along with her husband, her father-in-law Mariswamachari also used to torture Vidya.
Vidya had told that she had gone to sleep in her room on the night of 26th February, 2025 and she opened her eyes the next day in the evening of 27th February. When she regained consciousness, she felt severe pain in her thigh, as if someone had injected her. When her condition worsened and she reached the hospital, the examining doctor was shocked to see this heart-wrenching truth. Mercury was found in his body, which was slowly rotting his body parts.
Treatment continued for several months, but health did not improve.
After this terrible truth came to light, Vidya underwent treatment for a month at Oxford Hospital, then at Victoria Hospital. The doctor treating Vidya had said that the poison has spread throughout the body, the kidneys are also responding. After this dialysis started, but there was no improvement in Vidya’s health. Vidya kept fighting with death for her life for 9 months, kept on suffering, kept on bearing pain and then in the month of November, Vidya lost the battle of her life.
Police registered against husband and father-in-law FIR
Bengaluru’s Attibele police had registered an FIR against victim Vidya’s husband Baravaraj and father-in-law Mariswamachari on Sunday (November 23, 2025) after her statement. According to the FIR, Vidya was suffering from mercury poisoning in her body and her husband and father-in-law were accused of injecting mercury into her body with the intention of killing her. In this heart-wrenching case, a four-year-old innocent child lost his mother. At the same time, Vidya’s death has left a question before the society that, ‘If the husband becomes a murderer, then where will the wife go?’
