Hybrid cars give more mileage than petrol and diesel, you will be surprised to know the reason

The demand for hybrid cars has increased significantly in India in the last few years. People now want cars that give the same range as petrol and diesel, but also consume less fuel. Before buying an EV, many customers are concerned about range and charging infrastructure, while CNG cars are also not practical in many cases. This is why hybrid cars have become a smart option. These cars use electric motor along with the engine, due to which the mileage is very high.

EV mode

  • The biggest feature of a hybrid car is that at low speed or in city traffic, the car runs completely in EV mode. During this period neither petrol is used nor the engine runs. Only the battery and motor run the car, which saves fuel. This feature is most useful in offices, markets or crowded areas and this is the reason why hybrid vehicles give very good mileage in the city.

The battery is charged when the brakes are applied.

  • Another big advantage is regenerative braking. When you apply the brakes or the car slows down, the electric motor acts like a generator and stores energy in the battery. Normal petrol-diesel cars waste this energy, but hybrid cars reuse it, which reduces the load on the engine and increases the mileage.

Electric motor provides support to the engine

  • In hybrid cars, the electric motor provides extra help to the petrol engine. Due to this, the engine does not need to run at low RPM and it works in its most efficient range. When the car needs speed, the electric motor provides support, which does not put pressure on the petrol engine and saves fuel.

Saving petrol in traffic

  • Start-stop system also plays a big role in increasing the mileage. As soon as it stops at a traffic signal, the petrol/diesel engine automatically stops and the car continues to run on the electric motor. This saves a lot of petrol in city driving. Hybrid system can run AC compressor, heater and many other appliances with electric motor. This also reduces the load on the engine and the car consumes less fuel.

Popular Hybrid Cars in India

  • The demand for hybrid cars is continuously increasing in India. Cars like Maruti Victoris, Grand Vitara, Invicto are affordable options. Toyota Hyrider and Innova Hycross are quite popular for their reliable technology and mileage. Hybrid cars provide both fuel saving like EV and range like petrol car, hence they have become a great option in today’s time.
