Amid the ongoing war with Russia, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said that he is not afraid of Donald Trump like other Western countries. He also rejected reports which claimed that his last meeting in Washington had not gone well. Russia attacked Ukraine’s energy grid on Sunday (9 November 2025), due to which there was power outage in many areas of Kiev.
Our relations with Trump are normal: Zelensky
In an interview with The Guardian, Zelensky said that Prince Charles had helped him in improving relations with US President Trump. He denied claims that Trump had thrown away battlefield maps during a heated debate at the White House. Zelensky said, “He (Trump) did not throw anything. Our relations with America and Trump are normal.”
According to the Financial Times, Trump had allegedly pressured Zelensky to accept Vladimir Putin’s conditions for ending the war and said that if Ukraine did not agree, Putin would destroy it. According to Zelensky, his meeting with Trump was different.
We are not America’s enemy: Zelensky
He told that at that time the Ukrainian delegation had presented several outlines to Trump and his American team, including arms and economic sanctions. According to Zelensky, this was to reduce Russia’s ability to bomb Ukraine and force Putin to come to the negotiating table. He said, “It is true that everyone in the world is afraid of Trump.” When asked if he was also afraid of Trump, he said, “No… We are not America’s enemy, we are friends, so why should we be afraid?”
He said: “Trump was elected by his people. We should respect the President elected by the American people, just as I have been elected by my people. America has been our strategic partner for centuries.”
