KL Rahul is India’s star cricketer, who has also captained Team India. However, he is not part of the team for T20 World Cup 2026. It is surprising for a big player like Rahul to say that he does not consider himself very important for the team. He talked about his future planning in a conversation with the former England captain on ‘The Switch, Kevin Pietersen’ YouTube channel.

KL Rahul said in a conversation with Pietersen, “I did not fall in love with cricket because of people’s craze for cricket. I just chose it. I remember that my father also used to play cricket and whenever everyone was together at our house, all the men used to play cricket. Papa would make me bowl and I used to play the whole day because I enjoyed it. Perhaps it was written in my destiny to play cricket.”

I am not a superstar- KL Rahul

Rahul said, “I don’t think I am a superstar. I feel strange when people praise me.” Talking about the foundation he runs, Rahul said, “I have to tell myself how I got these opportunities. I can help those people who are struggling in their lives and need support. People also contact me directly, I got these opportunities because of cricket.

What did Rahul say on retirement?

Kevin Pietersen said that it is the most difficult thing to think about retirement in India, on which KL Rahul said, “Whenever I think about it, when you are honest with yourself, it is not difficult to do all this. When the time for retirement has to come, it will come, there is no point in prolonging it. Obviously there is still some time. I have been injured a lot and recovering from that is a difficult battle for any player. It is a mental battle when you lose. You accept.”

Rahul further said, “Cricket has given you a lot, which can last you for a long time. So leave it, just enjoy the things that you have. You have your family.”

I’m not that important

KL Rahul further said, “You know? I try to convince myself that I am not that important a player. Cricket will continue in our country, cricket will continue in the world. There are other important things. I think I have always had this mindset but ever since I had my first child, my perspective on life has changed.”
