Tilak Verma gave statement on returning to Team India
Tilak Verma said, ‘To be honest, I did not expect that I would be able to return to the field so soon. For this I wholeheartedly thank the Center of Excellence and BCCI. Playing the World Cup has always been my biggest dream. When I came on the field and people were shouting slogans of ‘Tilak-Tilak’, I was not expecting this at all. This made me feel very good and my enthusiasm increased further while going inside. He further said that seeing the aggressive batting of Ishaan, Abhishek and other players, he too got excited to play. Tilak said that he did not expect such a big crowd and that the DY Patil Stadium was completely full even though it was just a warm-up match. He thanked all the fans and said that the atmosphere was great and he and the entire Indian team are ready for the World Cup.
Team India performed brilliantly in the warm up
Team India performed brilliantly by deciding to bat first. Ishan Kishan played an explosive inning of 53 runs in just 20 balls. Kishan and Abhishek Sharma gave a great start to India and within 6 overs the team’s score reached 80/1. After this, both the openers retired to give the remaining players a chance to bat. Tilak scored 45 runs in 19 balls and made a quick partnership of 66 runs with captain Suryakumar Yadav. After this, thanks to the short but effective innings played by Akshar Patel, Rinku Singh in the last overs and Hardik Pandya’s stormy batting of 30 runs in 10 balls, India scored a big score of 240 runs for 5 wickets.
India beat South Africa by 30 runs
In reply, South Africa’s innings got off to a bad start when Arshdeep Singh dismissed George Linde for a duck. After this, Aiden Markram and Ryan Rickelton tried to support the team by making a partnership of 65 runs. But, after Markram retired, the wickets of Dewald Brewis, Rickelton and David Miller fell quickly. Due to this, the momentum of the match completely went in favor of India. Despite struggling contributions from Jason Smith, Tristan Stubbs and Marco Janssen, South Africa fell 30 runs short of the target. Now India’s focus is on the first match of the World Cup to be held against America on Saturday.
