Delhi Municipal Corporation has got its new commissioner. Approval has been given to appoint Sanjeev Khirwar of Indian Administrative Service of Arunachal Pradesh-Goa-Mizoram and Union Territory Cadre (AGMUT) 1994 batch as Commissioner of Delhi Municipal Corporation. This order has been issued by the Home Ministry.
The letter sent to the Secretary to the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi, dated January 21, 2025, signed by IAS Anish Muraleedharan, said that I am directed to inform that Sanjeev Khirwar, IAS (AGMUT:1994) has been approved for appointment as Commissioner of Municipal Corporation of Delhi with immediate effect and until further orders.
When did Sanjeev Khirwar come into limelight?
Let us tell you that Sanjeev Khirwar came into limelight in May 2022 when he was accused of vacating a public stadium and walking with a dog. At that time Khirwar had completely rejected the allegations. However, he was later transferred by the Home Ministry.

Khirwar also worked as Private Secretary to the Union Minister of Women and Child Development between 2009 and 2014. Let us tell you that this month Khirwar has returned on appointment to Delhi. After the controversy in 2022, he was transferred to Ladakh.
Khirwar’s wife Rinku Dugga is also a 1994 batch IAS officer. Rinku was also transferred to Arunachal Pradesh in 2022 itself. Rinku Dugga was the Principal Secretary of the Indigenous Affairs Department in Arunachal Pradesh, but later she was given compulsory retirement under service rules.
