ICC has given a big blow to Bangladesh Cricket Board. The International Cricket Council (ICC) has made it clear that Bangladesh’s demand to move the T20 World Cup matches out of India will not be accepted. ICC’s latest security review report clearly states that there is no serious threat to the Bangladeshi team in India. In such a situation, Bangladesh will now be forced to play all its scheduled matches in India.
Why doesn’t Bangladesh want to play in India?
Actually, this demand of Bangladesh came to the fore when Asif Nazrul, advisor to the country’s Sports Ministry, had claimed that there could be a threat to the safety of some players in India, especially Mustafizur Rahman. He even said that if Mustafizur is included in the team, the security risk may increase further. After these statements, Bangladesh Cricket Board had demanded ICC to change the venue of its matches.
What came out in the ICC security report?
However, these claims have not been confirmed in the investigation conducted by ICC’s independent security agencies. Speaking to PTI, an ICC source said that no concrete reason was found in the report on the basis of which Bangladesh’s matches should be shifted out of India. According to the report, the security level in India is in the ‘low to moderate’ category throughout the tournament. This level is considered common for any major international tournament. The source also clarified that the ICC, in collaboration with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the local administration, is continuously strengthening the security arrangements. Even before this, many big international tournaments have been organized successfully and safely in India.
Why are the chances of changing the schedule extremely low?
At the same time, Bangladesh Cricket Board has not yet accepted that ICC has completely rejected their demand. BCB says that they had made the request keeping in mind the security of the team and they are still waiting for the official response from ICC. However, according to the information received from some reports, the possibility of any change in the current schedule is very less.
Tension increased due to Mustafizur controversy
It is noteworthy that this entire controversy deepened after Mustafizur Rahman was released from IPL franchise Kolkata Knight Riders. After this, the Bangladesh government expressed its displeasure and banned the telecast of IPL in the country. Now after the ICC’s stance, it has become clear that Bangladesh will have to play all its league matches of the T20 World Cup in India, whether it is ready for it or not.
