ICC ODI Rankings: There has been a big change in the latest ICC ODI batsman rankings. New Zealand’s reliable batsman Daryl Mitchell has taken the number-1 crown, leaving behind India’s star player Virat Kohli. Mitchell, who performed brilliantly in the recently concluded ODI series against India, has got a direct reward for his hard work.
The series against India became a turning point
Daryl Mitchell proved to be New Zealand’s biggest hero in the three-match ODI series against India. He scored two centuries in this series and missed a century in the third. Overall, Mitchell scored 352 runs in three matches and was adjudged ‘Player of the Series’. Thanks to his brilliant batting, New Zealand won the ODI series 2-1 in India for the first time.
Despite excellent performance, Kohli could not stay on top
Virat Kohli also batted strongly in this series. He scored 240 runs in three matches. Played an excellent inning of 93 runs in the first ODI and 124 runs in 108 balls in the decisive match played in Indore. Virat’s batting reminded the fans of his old golden era. However, Team India failed to win the series and Virat had to slip down one place in the ranking.
points difference in ranking
Daryl Mitchell now has 845 rating points in his account, while Virat Kohli has reached second place with 795 points. The special thing is that even before this, Mitchell had become number-1 for a short time, but then his crown lasted only for three days. This time, due to the long schedule of T20 cricket, Mitchell has a good chance to remain on top.
Position of other batsmen
Afghanistan’s Ibrahim Zadran has reached third place in the ICC rankings, while Rohit Sharma has slipped to fourth place. Indian captain Shubman Gill remains at fifth position despite two half-centuries. On the other hand, New Zealand’s Glenn Phillips has jumped 16 places by scoring a quick century in the last match of the series and has entered the top-20.
Changes in all-rounders also
Glenn Phillips has also improved the ODI ranking of all-rounders. He has moved up 14 places to reach joint 31st position. Azmatullah Omarzai of Afghanistan remains at the first place in this list.
