The International Cricket Council (ICC) has taken action against former Pakistan captain and star batsman Babar Azam. Babar Azam has been fined 10 percent of his match fee for violating Level 1 of the ICC Code of Conduct. Babar was found guilty of violating the ICC Code of Conduct during the third ODI against Sri Lanka. This match was played on Sunday.
Let us tell you that this incident happened in the 21st over of Pakistani innings. After getting out, Babar hit the ball on the stumps with his bat before leaving the crease. Babar was found guilty of breaching Article 2.2 of the ICC Code of Conduct, which relates to the misuse of cricket equipment/clothing, on-field equipment and fittings during an international match.
ICC said in the press release that apart from this, one demerit point has been added to Babar’s disciplinary record. This was Babar Azam’s first crime in a period of 24 months. On-field umpires Alex Wharf and Rashid Riaz, third umpire Sharafuddaula Ibne Shahid and fourth umpire Faisal Afridi decided the charges. Babar admitted his crime and accepted the punishment proposed by Emirates ICC International Panel of Match Referee Ali Naqvi. In such a situation, there was no need for a formal hearing.
In the third match of the series played on 16 November in Rawalpindi, Pakistan had won by 6 wickets. The Sri Lankan team was reduced to just 211 runs in 45.2 overs. On behalf of this team, Sadira Samarawickrama scored 48 runs in 65 balls with 2 fours. From the opposition team, Mohammad Wasim Jr. took maximum 3 wickets, while Haris Rauf and Faisal Akram took 2-2 wickets.
In response, Pakistan registered victory in 44.4 overs. For this team, Fakhar Zaman scored 55 runs, while Mohammad Rizwan played an inning of 61 runs. Apart from these, Hussain Talat scored unbeaten 42 runs. Geoffrey Vandersay took maximum 3 wickets for Sri Lanka.
