ICC World Cup League 2: The effect of increasing military tension in the Middle East is now visible on cricket as well. Due to the ongoing conflict between Iran and Israel and the deteriorating security situation in the region, the International Cricket Council has had to take a big decision. Six matches of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup League 2 have been postponed for the time being.

All these matches were to be held in Nepal from March 10, but due to travel and security concerns, they have been postponed till further notice. Now new dates for these matches will be announced later.

Competitions were to be held in Nepal

According to the schedule, all these matches were to be played at Tribhuvan University International Cricket Ground. A total of six ODI matches were to be held here between March 10 and March 20. In this series, matches were to be played between Nepal, Oman and UAE. These three teams had to reach Nepal and participate in this triangular series. However, due to increasing conflict in the Middle East, air travel has been stopped. Due to closure of many routes and security concerns, it became difficult for the teams to reach Nepal. For this reason it has been decided to stop these matches.

Nepal Cricket Association gave information

Nepal Cricket Association gave information about this decision through social media on March 4. The board said that in view of the current situation in the Middle East, the League-2 matches to be held in Kathmandu are being postponed until further notice. The statement also said that all the matches between Oman, UAE and Nepal have been affected. ICC and the concerned boards will announce new dates soon after discussion among themselves.

Tournament related to 2027 World Cup qualification

The ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup League 2 plays an important role in the qualification process for the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2027. This tournament lasts for three years and a total of eight teams participate in it. At the end of the league, the top four teams advance to the qualifier round, from where the final places to play in the World Cup are decided. Whereas the remaining teams have to play additional matches to progress further. For this reason, every match is considered very important for the teams.

Next round in Namibia

Although the matches to be held in Nepal have been postponed for the time being, the next scheduled matches of the league will be played in April. The next round between Scotland, Oman and Namibia is scheduled to start from April 2 in Windhoek. At present, the American team is leading in the points table and appears to be in a strong position in the race for qualification. At present, everyone’s eyes are on when the situation in the Middle East becomes normal and when new dates are announced for the postponed matches.
