ICMR’s new advice is not carbes, protein is more important, leave white rice, adopt healthy grains


Today India is facing many growing health problems. Millions of people across the country are now struggling with serious metabolic diseases like heart diseases, diabetes, obesity and high blood pressure. This crisis did not come suddenly, its roots are hidden in our changing lifestyle and eating habits. Where earlier traditional Indian lifestyle such as light food, physical activity and homemade food were included, today it has changed to more processed food, junk food, more white rice and wheat based diet and frequent seating lifestyle. Keeping this concern in mind, a major survey conducted through ICMR has made it clear that India is now struggling with the crisis of serious diseases not just from a health problem, but without noise.

Shocking revelations from the survey
More than 18,000 people were investigated under this project named ICMR India Diabetes. The results of which were surprising. It found at least one major health problem in 83 percent of Indians, such as high BP, high cholesterol, obesity or diabetes. Apart from this, there is more than requirement in 41 percent, 26 percent of people, obese victims, and 43 percent weight. Also, 50 percent of the people have cholesterol imbalance. This study suggests that now these diseases are not limited to cities, these villages have spread to the people. Women consume less tobacco or alcohol, yet obesity and in-activity were found in them, while high BP and cholesterol problems are common in men.

Carbohydrates have become a big problem
Our diet is now on such food that fills the stomach, but gives more damage to the body. Such as white rice, refined wheat, more sugar and fried food. People who eat more carbohydrates are more at risk of diabetes and obesity. At the same time, removing only white rice and taking whole grains does not matter much, unless the total carbohydrate content decreases. The biggest thing of this study has come out that people should increase the amount of protein in their food. Taking the amount of protein correctly instead of carbs reduces the risk of type 2 diabetes by 9–11 percent, reduces the risk of predeeds by 6-18 percent, and without extra calories, you can get better health by increasing protein.

Which healthy grains should be adopted
According to the report, reduce extra carbohydrates and bad fat in food. Inspire people to adopt protein -rich diet. Physical activity should be promoted, whether walking, playing or yoga. Reduce the intake of white rice and flour, eat lentils or protein rich food once a day. Include milk, curd, egg or cheese in the diet. Also, do at least 30 minutes of physical activity daily.
