Armaan Malik did not want to do reality show
Armaan Malik said, ‘I went to the show without a mind. My mother wanted me to go there. He got me entered in the show. I belong to Malik family. I wanted to make my own identity. That’s why I didn’t use my surname at that time. I wanted to be judged on my singing. I cleared the auditions. I was eliminated from the show at number eight. At that time my mother had said that you will become the greatest singer of the country. My mother’s confidence encouraged me to pursue a career in singing. In Taare Zameen Par, the first thing I did was playback singing Bam Bam Bole. After this I did more work.
Regarding playback singing, he further said, ‘My grandfather Sardar Malik was a great composer. After listening to me, he told my father not to make him a composer, make him a singer. There are many composers in our family. There is a singing thing in this. Don’t make him train too much. Get as much done as required for playback.
‘Inspired by Sonu Nigam sir’
Armaan further said, ‘I loved Kishore Da’s songs. But really, whose songs inspired me was Sonu Nigam Sir. She is a big inspiration for me. I am very selective about my songs.
Armaan Malik sang ‘Butta Bomma’ in the hotel room
Armaan also reacted to the songs in South films. He said, ‘First of all I sang a song in Telugu for Pawan Kalyan garu. Then I sang the song Butta Bomma. This song became a big hit. I myself had no idea. I sang this song in the hotel room. My studio is with me everywhere.
What will you choose between playback singing or live concert or independent music? On this Armaan further said that he wants to do everything. He said, ‘I think an artist should not limit himself. Playback singing is a type of music. I also sing in English. I get to do a lot of things creatively so I don’t get bored. There came a time where I also felt that I had to do different things.
When there was a fight with brother Amaal
Armaan Malik also talked about his brother Amaal Malik. Armaan said, ‘Out of all the hit songs I have sung, 80 percent have been of Amaal only. People love the combination of both of us. He has had a huge role and contribution. He is the elder brother so we fight a lot. There was so much fight between us over one song that I was almost about to leave the studio. But then director Saheb Luv Ranjan said that when I leave from here, both of you please give me this song. Then I sang that in anger. So Amaal can do what no one else can do with me so that I can give the best.
