Congress has expressed objection to Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s ‘Mian’ comment. Congress said in a post on Twitter on Thursday (January 29, 2026) that the Assam CM is flouting the Constitution by taking oath and sowing the seeds of hatred in the country. Congress has posted a video of Himanta Biswa Sarma, in which he is saying, ‘If a Muslim rickshaw puller asks for Rs 5, give him Rs 4… harass him a lot.’
Hateful thinking of BJP-RSS: Congress
On this, Congress said, ‘This poor statement comes from Assam Chief Minister and Narendra Modi’s favorite Himanta Biswa Sarma. Himanta Biswa Sarma is tearing apart the Constitution and sowing seeds of hatred in the country. This is the hateful thinking of BJP-RSS. This statement is not only absurd, but is a direct attack on Baba Saheb’s Constitution and our Ganga-Jamuni culture, which has given the right to equality to every Indian. Narendra Modi and BJP should apologize to the entire country for this shameful act of Himanta Biswa Sarma.
Assam CM’s statement
Assam Chief Minister on Tuesday (January 27, 2026) said that due to the ongoing Special Revision (SIR) of voter lists, no Assamese citizen is facing any problem, but only ‘Miya’ (Bengali speaking Muslims) people are facing problems due to this process. During an event in Digboi, he said that people of ‘Mian’ community cannot be allowed to vote in the state.
Should vote in Bangladesh: Himanta Biswa Sarma
Himanta Biswa Sarma said, ‘Yes, we are trying to steal the votes of the Mian community. They should vote not in our country but in Bangladesh. We are making arrangements to ensure that they are not able to vote in Assam. He asked, ‘Why should we be worried if the Mian community is facing difficulties in this regard?’
