Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump had a meeting in Alaska, USA on Friday (August 15, 2025). After this meeting, Putin said that if Donald Trump had been in the White House in 2022, there would never have been a war in Ukraine. He indicated the hope of improving the relationship between the two countries in the first face-to-face meeting with the US President in 5 years.
Trump has been claiming for a long time that if he had been a President, there would not have been a war between Ukraine and Russia. When Putin was asked about this, he said that I can confirm this. The two leaders interacted in Alaska, which was described as creative by both sides. Putin described this place as a logical place in view of the common history of both countries.

What did Putin say by praising Trump?
Putin said that Ukraine was the main issue in the meeting. He praised Trump’s desire to understand the struggle. Apart from this, to end the war between the two countries, insisting on the interest of Russia, all the root causes should be abolished and all Russia’s concerns should be taken into consideration.
He further said that I agree with Trump that Ukraine’s safety should be ensured. I hope that there will be peace in Ukraine with mutual understanding.
