In such a situation, let us tell you today whether you can still get a refund even if you miss the train due to your own fault and what the railway rules say about it.
Do you get a refund even if you miss the train due to your own fault?
Often people assume that the ticket money is wasted as soon as the train leaves. Whereas Railways has set some rules for this. If you have missed the train by mistake, you can still apply for a refund, but conditions apply. Actually, if the passenger does not reach the station on time and misses the train, then Railways gives the option to file Ticket Deposit Receipt i.e. TDR. This process has to be done within one hour of the departure of the train. Because claims made after the stipulated time are not accepted.
How to file TDR?
TDR can be filed through IRCTC website or mobile app. For this, the passenger has to log in to the IRCTC website and go to the My Account section. There the ticket related information, journey details and reason for missing the train have to be filled. After this the Railways investigates the matter. However, if the train is missed due to the passenger’s fault, the full amount is not refunded. In this, Railways deducts some fees as service charge and the remaining amount is refunded. The amount of refund also depends on how quickly the TDR is filed.
When does the refund come?
After filing TDR, the refund process is usually completed within 7 to 21 days. The money is returned to the same account from which the ticket was booked. In some cases, refund may also be available quickly.
What happens if the railways is at fault?
If the train has left before the scheduled time or the passenger is not able to travel due to some technical reason, then in such a situation there is a provision to get full refund. However, for this it is necessary to give the correct reason in TDR. If the matter is found correct after investigation, the entire ticket amount is refunded without any deduction.
