The T20 World Cup controversy is deepening. On one hand, the International Cricket Council (ICC) has given an ultimatum to Bangladesh that it will have to clear its position by 21 January. On the other hand, there is news that Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) under pressure from Bangladesh government had said not to send its team to India.
On the other hand, it is also updated that amidst the T20 World Cup controversy, the government of Mohammad Younis had sought support from Pakistan at the cricket level. Pakistan has also supported Bangladesh. ICC has clearly told Bangladesh that it will have to play its World Cup matches in India only. Bangladesh is not ready to give up its stubbornness, in such a situation it is completely possible that ICC may remove it from the World Cup.
If Bangladesh is out of World Cup, then who will take its place?
A total of 20 teams will be participating in the 2026 T20 World Cup. If any team’s name is dropped from the World Cup tournament, then a new team will be included in the tournament on the basis of ICC ranking. All the teams from number one to number 13 in the ranking are part of the T20 World Cup. But Scotland could not qualify.
If Bangladesh team is out, then its place in the World Cup will be given to Scotland. According to the report of ESPN Cricinfo, ICC’s patience has broken and it believes that it is not possible to change the schedule in such a short time in terms of logistics, broadcasting and tickets.
