The first phase of the Gaza peace plan started with the release of hostages on Monday (13 October 2025). All 20 remaining hostages in Gaza have been freed from Hamas captivity and returned to Israel after two years of war. A peace summit is going to be held in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt for permanent peace in the Gaza Strip, for which US President Donald Trump has reached there.
Iraq’s PM warns Netanyahu
Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammad Shia al-Sudani, who reached this conference, has warned Israel. According to the report of the Iraqi News Agency, before the Gaza summit, the Iraqi PM informed the Egyptian and American officials that if Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu participates in it, he will withdraw from the summit.
Netanyahu will not go to Gaza conference
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had already refused to participate in the Gaza Peace Summit citing lack of time. According to the Times of Israel report, the Jewish festival Simhat Torah falls at that time and Netanyahu avoids traveling on any Jewish festivals.
This summit is being jointly chaired by Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi and US President Donald Trump. The leaders participating in it include British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, Italian PM Georgia Meloni, French President Emmanuel Macron and UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres.
PM Modi praised Trump for bringing peace in Gaza
Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised US President Trump for bringing peace in Gaza. PM Modi posted on Twitter and said, we welcome the release of the Israeli hostages who were held hostage for more than two years. We support the sincere efforts of US President Donald Trump to bring peace to the region.” On behalf of India, Minister of State for External Affairs Kirti Vardhan Singh will participate in the event.
