Recently, the politics of Madhya Pradesh got hot when State Congress President Jeetu Patwari gave a shocking statement. In a conversation with the media, he claimed that women who drink the most alcohol in the entire country live in Madhya Pradesh. He also said that this figure has come out in the report of NFHS i.e. National Family Health Survey and it has been released through the Modi government. After this statement, there was a ruckus in the politics of the state. CM Mohan Yadav expressed strong objections, calling it an insult to the women of the state and said that we will not tolerate this insult. The question arises whether Jeetu Patwari’s claim is true? Do women of Madhya Pradesh really drink the most alcohol in the country? In such a situation, let us know that women of which state drink the most alcohol?

What do figures say?

Many important figures have been revealed in the National Family Health Survey (NFHS) 2019-21 on the habits of drinking alcohol across the country. According to this survey, people who drink alcohol in women have been found more in certain states. But Madhya Pradesh is not included in them. According to the data, Arunachal Pradesh tops the country, where 24.2 percent of women drink alcohol, followed by states like Sikkim (16.2 percent), Assam (7.3 percent), and Telangana (6.7 percent). This percentage is also high in other states like Jharkhand, Goa, Tripura, Ladakh, Andaman and Nicobar and Chhattisgarh. At the same time, only 0.4 percent of women in Madhya Pradesh drink alcohol, which is very low. That is, MP is very low in the case of women who drink the most alcohol across the country.

Why is the habit of drinking alcohol in women increasing?

Why women are increasing the habit of drinking alcohol in the last few years, now women are living in more cities than before, where lifestyle is sharp and advanced. At the same time, there are changes in the society, and now many things are being accepted openly, such as women to drink alcohol. Women are now getting financially strong, so they are able to buy and use things from their choice. Apart from this, stress, work pressure and competition are also becoming a reason for drinking alcohol. Drinking alcohol has become common now due to increasing culture of party and fashion. Homemade liquor is traditionally drunk in many tribal areas. It is part of the culture there, such as in Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh and Northeast states, so this habit is now related to society and culture in some places.
