Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi also spoke during the ongoing debate in Parliament during the winter session on completion of 150 years of Vande Mataram. Participating in the discussion, he said that if we are calling Mother India a goddess then we are bringing religion into it.
‘Let freedom remain intact, we did not make the country and religion one’
He said that our independence has remained intact because we have not made the country and religion one. If we make Vande Mataram a symbol of loyalty then you are insulting the great freedom fighters.
‘Given the example of the gardener and the executioner’
If a gardener says that he will get only one flower, then that gardener will no longer be a gardener and will be called an executioner. Don’t take loyalty certificate from us. Tell me what is written in the book of your elders.
‘Our faith does not come between love for the country’
Owaisi said, Islam, being a Muslim, love for the country does not come in between our faith, love for the country is there and will always be there, but it would be wrong if those who did not take part in the freedom struggle talk about love for the country. Why are you people so worried about Jana Gana Mana?
He said that an article written in Organizer magazine of December 28 was found. Love for the country is very important for us. A lot has been said about Anand Math. Independence came to India because we did not make the country and religion one.
‘We hope that the orders will not be coercive’
If we make Vande Mataram a test of loyalty, then let us assume that we will leave the thinking of Gandhi, Tagore, Bose, Ambedkar and adopt the thinking of Godse. We hope that the government does not force it, it is my right, I know that Vande Mataram was the slogan at the time of independence, but if you force it then it is against the Constitution. Don’t take loyalty certificate from us.
