If you are going to take admission in any university for studies in India, then be careful. The University Grants Commission (UGC) has identified 22 such universities across the country, which are giving admission to students by claiming themselves to be legitimate, but in reality they are fake. The degrees awarded by these institutions are completely invalid and have no academic or legal value.

While releasing the list of all these institutions, UGC has clearly said that they are neither established under any law of the Central or State Government nor recognized by the Commission. That is, if a student has done a course from these institutions, then his degree will not be valid for any government or private job.

Most fake universities in Delhi

According to the list released by UGC, Delhi has the highest number of fake universities. These include such names which sound quite trustworthy, but in reality they are cheating the students. The fake institutions in Delhi include All India Institute of Public and Physical Health Sciences, Commercial University Limited (Daryaganj), Vocational University, Vishwakarma Self-Employment Open University, Spiritual University (Rohini), World Peace United Nations University (Pitampura), Institute of Management and Engineering (Kotla Mubarakpur) etc. Many of these institutions confuse students by adding words like “United Nations”, “State Government”, or “University” to their names.

Four fake institutions in Uttar Pradesh, many in South India too

Four fake universities have been identified in Uttar Pradesh. These include Gandhi Hindi Vidyapeeth (Prayagraj), Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Open University (Aligarh), Indian Council of Education (Lucknow) and Mahamaya Technical University (Noida). These institutions were charging fees in the name of degree and diploma courses, whereas they have no recognition from UGC.

In Andhra Pradesh too, two such institutions have been found which were giving fake degrees in the name of religious education, these include Christ New Testament Deemed University (Guntur) and Bible Open University of India (Visakhapatnam).

Similarly, in Kerala also two institutions were found to be fake. Whose names are International Islamic Prophetic Medicine University (Kozhikode) and St. John’s University (Kishanattam). Raja Arabi University (Nagpur) in Maharashtra has been declared fake, while Sri Bodhi Academy of Higher Education in Puducherry has been found unrecognized. In West Bengal also, two institutes, Indian Institute of Alternative Medicine (Kolkata) and Institute of Alternative Medicine and Research (Thakurpukur) have been found to be fake.

Big alert for students

UGC has said that before taking admission in any university or college, students must check its recognition (UGC Recognition). If the name of any university is not on the official website of UGC, then the degree obtained from there will have no value. The Commission has also said that the future of students taking admission in fake universities may be in danger. Because these degrees will neither benefit you in government jobs nor will you be able to pursue further studies in any recognized institute.
