What is MEXT Scholarship?

The Government of Japan runs a scholarship program for foreign students, named MEXT Scholarship (Monbukagakusho). This scholarship is run by the Ministry of Education of Japan. Under this, foreign students do not have to pay any tuition fees to study in Japanese universities. This is a fully funded scholarship of the Government of Japan.

Under this, students not only get exemption from tuition fees, but the government also provides stipend for accommodation and food. With this, foreign students can complete their studies by staying in Japan without any financial worries. Indian students can also take advantage of this scholarship. Through this, one can study in top universities and colleges of Japan. This scholarship includes tuition fees as well as air travel expenses.

Requirements for MEXT Scholarship

Some terms and conditions have been set to avail the benefit of this scholarship. If the candidate fulfills these conditions, then he is considered eligible for this scholarship.

  • If a student wants to take MEXT scholarship for undergraduate studies, then his/her age should be between 17 to 25 years. Apart from this, the candidate must have approximately 80 percent marks in class 12th.
  • If a candidate wants to go to Japan through this scholarship for pursuing Masters, PhD or research, then his age should not be more than 35 years. For these courses, it is mandatory for the candidate to have at least 70 percent marks in the previous degree.
  • The candidate must be an Indian citizen. Along with this, it is also important for the candidate to be mentally and physically healthy.
