Before the start of IPL 2026, Lucknow Super Giants owner Sanjeev Goenka has sent a strong message to his team. He has made it clear that if the team has to be ‘respected’ then merely reaching the playoffs is not enough. Goenka said in a sharp manner that the success of the team is judged not only on the basis of consistency but also on the trophy.
While discussing a show on Geostar, Sanjiv Goenka said that no sports team gets enough respect until it wins the trophy. He said that LSG team has reached the playoffs twice, but it is not enough. Goenka said that sometimes the team loses and sometimes wins, but Lucknow has to win its first trophy.
He highlighted some points from the last season, which proved to be very good decisions from the point of view of Lucknow Super Giants. He said that most of the main bowlers of the team were injured, despite this the Lucknow team won four out of the first 6 matches of the season. The decision to get Aiden Markram and Mitchell Marsh to open was also a good one, which later proved to be the best season for both of them.
Goenka believes that this time Lucknow Super Giants have everything that a champion team needs. According to him, many players had performed well individually in IPL 2025, but this time everyone will have to play unitedly.
Lucknow Super Giants will be captained by Rishabh Pant, who has to play his first match with Delhi Capitals on 1st April. Have to play with Sunrisers Hyderabad on 5th April, Kolkata Knight Riders on 9th April and then Gujarat Titans on 12th April. BCCI has not yet released the complete schedule of IPL 2026.
