Stomach Cancer Symptoms: Stomach cancer has become a serious health problem all over the world today. Every year lakhs of people are affected by this disease. Although genetic factors and environmental factors also play a role in this, but according to doctors, diet and lifestyle have the greatest impact on stomach health and the risk of cancer. If we make some small changes in our eating habits and habits, digestion can be strengthened, immunity can be increased and the risk of cancer can be reduced in the long run.
Dr. Saurabh Sethi, a trained gastroenterologist from AIIMS, Harvard and Stanford, has recently given 4 easy and effective ways to reduce the risk of stomach cancer in his Instagram post. His advice includes proper diet, gut-friendly habits, staying away from processed meats and testing for bacterial infections like Helicobacter pylori. These measures not only improve stomach health, but also make the body strong from within and capable of fighting cancer.
Include cruciferous vegetables in your diet
Cruciferous vegetables like broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower, Brussels sprouts and kale are considered very beneficial in preventing cancer. The natural element called sulforaphane found in them detoxifies the body, increases liver function and reduces oxidative stress, which can cause cancer. According to Dr. Sethi, if you include these vegetables in your diet regularly. Whether they are boiled, roasted or lightly sautéed, it improves digestion, immunity and stomach health. Vitamin C, Vitamin K and folate present in them help the body fight infections and diseases.
Make garlic an important part of your diet
Garlic has always been considered a superfood. The allicin element found in it is full of anti-cancer and anti-bacterial properties. According to Dr. Sethi, garlic protects the inner lining of the stomach, eliminates harmful bacteria and helps prevent infections like H. pylori. It can be easily added to everyday meals, such as soups, vegetables, stir-fries or salads. Raw garlic has the highest amount of allicin, but its benefits remain even when eaten lightly cooked. Regular consumption not only makes food tasty, but also provides natural protection to the stomach.
Stay away from processed meat
Processed meats like bacon, sausage, hot dogs and deli meats contain chemicals called nitrates and nitrites, which increase the risk of stomach cancer. Excessive consumption of these increases inflammation in the digestive system and can damage the cells. According to Dr. Sethi, replace them with chicken, fish, pulses or plant-based proteins. Cook fresh meat at home and avoid overcooked or burnt meat, as these release cancer-causing compounds.
Get tested for Helicobacter pylori
H. pylori is a bacteria that causes infection in the inner layer of the stomach and can be a major cause of gastritis, ulcers and stomach cancer. If you repeatedly complain of stomach pain, gas, indigestion, nausea or burning sensation, then it may be a sign that there is H. pylori infection in the stomach. Dr. Sethi advises to get it tested in time and if necessary, seek treatment as per doctor’s advice. This infection can be treated with antibiotics and acid-suppressing medications. It is also important to maintain cleanliness, not to eat dirty water and undercooked food from outside.
