Becoming an officer in the Indian Army is the dream of millions of youth, but in this path, hard work, dedication and right direction are most important. Many times candidates make small mistakes due to which they do not get selected. There are many ways to become an officer in the Indian Army. The most prominent one is NDA i.e. National Defense Academy. This is for those students who want to join the army after 12th. Through this examination, candidates can become officers in Army, Air Force and Navy. After passing the examination, cadets are given three years of rigorous training at NDA based in Pune.

After this is CDS i.e. Combined Defense Services Examination. This is for graduate level candidates. The candidates passing this are sent for training in IMA (Indian Military Academy), Air Force Academy or Naval Academy.

Opportunities are open for women also. They can become officers in the army through SSC (Short Service Commission). Apart from this, candidates with technical background can also get entry into the Army as officers through TES (Technical Entry Scheme) or UES (University Entry Scheme).

Required qualification and age

If you want to appear for NDA exam then you must have passed 12th class (with Physics and Maths subjects) and your age should be between 16.5 to 19.5 years. Whereas for CDS exam, graduation degree from any recognized university is required. The age limit to apply for this examination has been kept between 19 to 24 years.

The process of becoming an officer in the army is very strict and systematic. In the first stage, there is a written examination, in which questions are asked from General Knowledge, English and Maths. After this there is SSB interview (Services Selection Board), this is the most difficult and decisive stage. SSB interview lasts for five days, in which your mental ability, leadership skills, decision making abilities and teamwork are tested. After this, final selection is done through medical test and merit list.

Don’t make these mistakes even by mistake

  • While applying, take special care of your age and physical fitness.
  • Focusing only on memorization and not developing basic understanding.
  • Not paying attention to physical fitness.
  • Lack of confidence in interview.
