Tight Underwear Effects On Male Fertility: A question that often arises regarding men’s fertility is whether wearing tight underwear affects fertility? With the help of many tests and studies, an attempt has been made to find out how tight underwear affects the testicles. Some time ago, a study published in the Journal of Human Reproduction found that men who wore tight underwear had lower sperm count. However, experts are still discussing whether the reason for this is just tight underwear or the increasing temperature around the testicles. Heat is a big factor, and tight clothes add to it. Let us tell you about it.

What came out in the research?

According to a 2018 report, America’s Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health researchers conducted a study on 656 men and found that men wearing boxers had 25 percent higher sperm concentration than those wearing tight underwear. It is believed that cold temperature around the testicles could be the main reason for this. Experts say that even a simple lifestyle change like changing the style of underwear can improve the fertility of men. Sperm production is sensitive to temperatures above 34°C (92°F), which is why the testicles hang slightly away from the body.

Some underwear or briefs pull the scrotum closer to the body, which increases the temperature. Whereas loose underwear like boxer shorts keeps the scrotum cool. In the largest study to date, researchers found that among men visiting a fertility clinic, those who wore loose boxers had higher sperm concentration, 17 percent higher total sperm count and 33 percent more motile sperm than those who wore tight underwear.

How does tight underwear affect men?

Wearing tight underwear may make some people feel secure and fit, but when it becomes too tight, a number of problems can begin. These effects of tight underwear can be seen in men-

Decrease in blood circulation

Underwear that is too tight restricts blood flow to the groin, which can lead to numbness, discomfort, or circulation problems in the long run.

Risk of skin irritation

The friction of the clothes increases, which can cause rashes, redness, irritation and sometimes even painful cuts.

Effect on sperm production

Tight underwear increases the temperature of the scrotum, which affects the process of sperm formation and can reduce fertility over time.

Movement restriction and discomfort

Too tight underwear causes pinching, pain and restriction of movement, which makes it difficult to perform daily tasks or exercise.

increased risk of infection

Tight underwear traps heat and moisture, increasing the risk of bacterial and fungal infections.

pressure on testicles

Tight fitting can compress the testicles, causing pain, strain, or even damage in the long run.

effect on posture

When underwear is too tight, the body’s natural alignment can be disrupted, leading to lower back pain and poor posture.

increased sweating and bad odor

Due to reduced airflow, there is more sweating and due to heat getting trapped, the smell also increases.

Problem in physical activity

While playing or doing gym, tight underwear causes chafing and discomfort, which affects performance.

risk of varicose veins

Wearing tight underwear for a long time increases the pressure on the veins in the groin, which can lead to the risk of developing varicose veins.
