‘Improve relations with India as soon as possible’, 19 US MPs angry at Trump amid tariff dispute; Wrote letters and told lies

After imposing tariffs on India, US President Donald Trump’s troubles in his own country have increased. Many bureaucrats, including America’s former NSA, are putting Trump in the dock for spoiling relations with India. Meanwhile, 19 MPs led by US MPs Deborah Ross and Ro Khanna have written a letter to Trump appealing for immediate improvement in strained relations with India. These MPs have also demanded the Trump administration to withdraw the increased tariffs on India.

‘America should improve relations with India’

These US lawmakers said in a letter to Donald Trump on Wednesday (October 8, 2025), “Due to the recent increase in tariffs, the duty on Indian goods has increased to 50 percent. Due to this, relations with India, the world’s largest democracy, have become tense. After this, there have been negative consequences for both the countries.” All 19 lawmakers called on President Trump to reestablish and improve this important partnership.

‘The supply chain is being harmed due to tariffs’

“The Trump Administration increased tariffs on Indian products to 50 percent through the end of August 2025, including a 25 percent reciprocal tariff as well as an additional 25 percent duty in response to oil purchases from Russia. These punitive tariffs are hurting both Indian manufacturers and American consumers. They are harming the supply chains that American companies depend on to bring products to market,” the lawmakers wrote.

‘American manufacturers are dependent on India’

US lawmakers stressed the importance of India as a trading partner, saying, “American manufacturers depend on India for key goods, from semiconductors to healthcare to energy. American companies investing in India get access to one of the fastest growing consumer markets in the world. Indian investments in the US have created jobs and economic opportunities for local communities.”

India will move closer to China and Russia because of Trump

He warned, “An increase in tariffs could jeopardize relations with India. It could increase costs for American families and reduce the ability of American companies to compete globally.” The letter further warns that these steps of the Trump administration are in danger of India coming closer to China and Russia.

“This development is particularly worrying given India’s growing importance as a stable power in the Indo-Pacific region through its participation in the Quad,” the lawmakers said.
