Former Prime Minister of Pakistan and cricket star Imran Khan is lodged in Adiala jail for the last two years. Since August 2023, his political struggle has been confined behind the walls of jail. Khan had said that the cases registered against him were made under pressure from the government and military leadership. The family was hopeful that the situation would improve after the court hearing, but they have not been allowed any kind of meeting for the last one month. For this reason, doubt and restlessness are continuously increasing.
Adiala jail officials say that Imran Khan’s health is normal and he is getting all the necessary medical facilities inside the jail. The administration has also been reiterating that the talks circulating on social media about taking them somewhere else are completely wrong. Despite this, due to lack of information to the family, the dispute is not going to subside.
General Asim Munir will be responsible for my death
Imran Khan’s old article, which was published in Britain’s Telegraph on May 2, 2024, has made the atmosphere more tense. In that article, Khan had created a stir by writing that the military establishment had exhausted all avenues against him and now he felt his life was in danger. He had clearly said that if anything happens to him or his wife, Army Chief General Asim Munir will be directly responsible for it. Today, when rumors of his death or ill health are emerging on social media, the same lines have come into discussion again.
Increasing crowd outside Adiala Jail
Imran Khan’s supporters and PTI workers are continuously gathering outside Adiala Jail. They want the family to be allowed to meet immediately and any kind of doubt regarding Khan’s health should be removed. The atmosphere is becoming more heated due to lack of meeting despite court orders.
Qasim Khan’s appeal – no news for six weeks
Imran Khan’s younger son Qasim Khan issued an emotional message from Britain through social media. He said that his father has been kept in isolation for six weeks and the family does not even know how his health is. According to Qasim, this is not just an excuse for security but a deliberate withholding of information. He warned that if any untoward incident happens to Imran Khan, the responsibility of the Pakistan government and the people standing behind it lies. Qasim also sought intervention from international human rights organizations.
The government sticks to its point – no need to panic, Imran is safe
Both the government and the jail administration claim that Imran Khan is being given both facilities and security in the jail. According to him, neither has he been taken anywhere else nor is his health in danger. The administration says that all the necessary information has been given to the PTI leaders, but the family and support groups are not ready to believe these things, because they have not yet received permission to meet them.
