Indian tablet market: The sales of tablet PCs in the country have declined by 32.3 percent in the first half of 2025. During this time only 21.5 lakh tablets were sold in the country. This information was given on Thursday in the report of market research firm IDC. According to the report, the biggest reason for this decline is cut in some schemes run by the government, under which large quantities of tablets were purchased earlier.

Why the tablet market falling

It said that even though the market has declined, Samsung still sold the most and ranked first with market share. Lenovo then ranked 12.3 percent and Apple was second and third with 11.8 percent stake.

The IDC report stated that a total of 21.5 lakh tablets were sold in India in the first half of 2025. These included both detachable (separating from the keyboard) and both slate (ordinary tablet) tablets. During this period, the sales of detachable tablets increased by 18.9 percent, but the sales of ordinary slate tablets fell by 44.4 percent, which led to the total market down.

Samsung won

According to the report, this decline came because the demand for tablets to be purchased under government schemes has reduced greatly. Through these schemes, a large number of tablets were usually purchased for schools and offices.

The report said that Samsung performed the best in both commercial (for the use of government and offices) and domestic markets. It said that in the success of the company, the schemes of government schools and aggressive sales campaigns on the online platform were helpful. Samsung’s total market share was 40.8 percent in the second quarter.
