Every person’s desire to have a physical relationship is different. Some person may be more into physical relations, some may be less into it. But what if this desire increases so much in a person that he is unable to control himself? Such a condition is called nymphomania. This is a mental condition in which a person has an excessive and uncontrolled desire to have physical relations.

Nymphomania is not just the desire to have a normal physical relationship. In this, the desire to have sex several times a day is so strong that the person’s daily routine, relationships, career and mental health start getting affected. In some cases, a person may feel the urge to have sex 10 to 12 times a day. It is no longer just a desire, but becomes a compulsive behavior, which becomes very difficult to stop.

Symptoms of Nymphomania

1. Uncontrolled physical relationship- A person is not able to control his physical relationship desires even if he wants to. Sometimes this condition becomes so severe that it affects everyday activities.

2. Constant physical relationship thoughts – Throughout the day, physical relationship fantasies and thoughts keep roaming in the mind, which makes it difficult to concentrate on other work.

3. Negative consequences – Physical relationship activities can lead to problems in relationships, work and social life, such as fights or job failure.

4. Risky behavior – The person has unsafe physical relations with multiple partners and does not care about its consequences.

Why does nymphomania happen?

This condition does not occur suddenly in any person. There can be many reasons behind this. For example, this condition can arise when there is an imbalance of hormones and neurotransmitters in the brain. Sometimes some problems or stress in life, such as sexual harassment or mental trauma, can bring a person into this condition. The hormonal balance in the brain of a person who is constantly under stress gets disturbed, due to which this condition can arise.

Nymphomania in men and women

This condition is more common in women and is called nymphomania. A similar condition in men is called Satyriasis. Its effect is same in both. Losing control over the desire to have physical relations and the habit of constantly having relations.

treatment of nymphomania

Nymphomania is not fully recognized as a disease throughout the world, but it is seen as Hypersexuality Disorder or Sexual Addiction. Psychotherapy like CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy) is especially helpful in this. Doctors can prescribe some medicines, which help in controlling the desire to have physical relations and compulsive behavior. There are also support groups for such people, where it is helpful to share experiences and understand the problem.
