Alok Joshi belongs to Lucknow, the capital of Uttar Pradesh. He completed his higher education from Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), Delhi. After this, he completed the post graduation in political science from JNU itself. After completing his studies, he chose the path of civil service and selected the Indian Police Service (IPS) from Haryana cadre in 1976.

Long experience in intelligence agencies
In view of the abilities of Alok Joshi, working as IPS, he was appointed in the country’s internal intelligence agency Intelligence Bureau (IB). In the year 2005, he reached the post of Joint Director in IB.
After this, in 2010, he was made the special secretary of India’s external intelligence agency RAW (Research and Analysis Wing). In 2012, Alok Joshi took over as the head of RAW. Under his leadership, India carried out many important international intelligence campaigns.
