After changing jobs, employees often forget their old PF account. Many times a small amount remains deposited in the account, but no one has to withdraw it for years. Now a big update has come out regarding such inactive accounts. Actually, EPFO has decided to start the process of returning small amounts lying in such accounts. Lakhs of account holders are expected to benefit from this step taken on the instructions of the Union Labor Ministry. The special thing is that in accounts where there is very little balance left, the account holder will not need to make a separate application to return the money. The money will be transferred directly to the bank account linked to Aadhaar. In such a situation, let us now tell you that the money deposited in the PF account will come to whose bank account and how you can check your status.
In which accounts will the money come?
Around 31 lakh such PF accounts have been identified across the country which have been inactive for a long time. Of these, about 6 lakh accounts have deposits of Rs 1000 or less. The money will be returned to these accounts first. In such a situation, if your old account is not in use for many years and the balance in it is less than Rs 1000, then this amount will be sent directly to your Aadhaar linked bank account. Keep in mind that money will be transferred to only those accounts whose bank account and Aadhaar details are updated and linked.
What is inactive PF account?
If neither any payment is deposited nor any withdrawal is made in a PF account for 3 consecutive years, then it is considered as inoperative i.e. inactive account. However, such an account is not closed forever. On getting a new job, the old UAN can be reactivated by linking it to the new employer. Many times complaints are received that some companies deduct PF from the salary of employees but do not deposit it on time. To strengthen monitoring on this, EPFO is linking its database with government procurement portal GeM, GST department and other agencies. This will make it easier to find out which companies are not following the rules.
