Income tax department now keeps a close watch on social media accounts, these big changes going to be held from April 1

The Income Tax Department is going to get new weapons as a law to clamp down on such people, after which they will have more strength for action than before. & Nbsp;

1 April 2026 i.e. from the new financial year, the Income Tax Department will get new legal strength. This law provides that Income Tax Officer will be able to keep direct access from any suspects from their emails, bank accounts, social media accounts, trading platforms to online investment. & Nbsp;

Section 132 of the Income Tax Act 1961 allows the Income Tax Officer from search of any suspect to seizure. That is, the government has made up its mind to tighten the screws on the theft through digital mediums through this. In such a situation, unannounced income, from gold and silver to precious digital items and secret property can be track.

There is a provision that the officers will be able to unlock files and data if they do not cooperate during the investigation, will be able to bypass passwords and override security settings. According to the rules so far, the Income Tax Officer can seize a laptop or hard drive during a raid here, but there are legal hurdles in their direct access to digital data.

Section 247 of the new Income Tax Bill says that rights will be able to check digital data only in tax evasion cases but it will be applicable only in the same cases where there is no unannounced property or correct information about income.
