Ind vs eng 2nd test: Team India fast bowler Mohammad Siraj has now started raising questions about the Test form. Former Indian cricketer and commentator Sanjay Manjrekar has asked the new head coach Gautam Gambhir and captain Shubman Gill to focus on Siraj’s recent performance. Manjrekar has said during an interview that now the time has come that the team should consider some other option instead of Siraj and the team management will have to take the responsibility of taking this “difficult decision”.
Siraj’s form became a reason for concern
In the Haddingley Test against England, Siraj took two wickets in the first innings, but he was completely flopped in the second innings. However, in a spell, he definitely put some good balls. He harassed Jack Crolee with his bowling and also gave Ben Docket a chance to dismiss 97, which Yashasvi Jaiswal lost the catch, but there is a clear lack of consistency in him.
Regarding his form, Sanjay Manjrekar said in a conversation on ESPN Cricinfo, “Now the time has come for the team to take difficult decisions. Siraj is a senior bowler in the team, he has bowled with his full experience. He has a spell in the headingley and his old record is also fine, but at the moment we have to keep an eye on today’s situation.”
Sanjay Manjrekar’s criticism is based on data, not just on the spirit. Siraj has taken just 28 wickets in his last 10 Tests, and the decline in his performance has put more pressure on Bumrah. In such a situation, Team India will have to find a trusted second fast bowler as soon as possible.
Better option told the famous Krishna
Manjrekar described the famous Krishna as a better option than Siraj. He told Krishna in a better form than Siraj and has talked about giving him priority as the partner of Jaspreet Bumrah. He said that during the last moment during the Test match, captain Shubman Gill himself was calling Krishna for the wicket. He said, “I felt that at the end of the Test Krishna seemed to be the bowlers from whom Shubman was expecting a wicket. He was a little expensive, but the hunger to take wickets was clear in them. So if I want to choose the team right now, I will include the famous Krishna in the team instead of Siraj. It is a difficult decision, but it is necessary to see the recent form of Siraj.”
Demand for return of Nitish Reddy, and Kuldeep in place of Shardul
Not only Siraj, Manjrekar has also suggested to exclude Shardul Thakur. He has advocated to include Nitish Kumar Reddy in his place. Also, he has also talked about bringing Kuldeep Yadav into the team instead of a fast bowler. He further said, “Do not feed the seamors just because you are playing in a country where the seam movement takes place. If I was, I would drop a seam bowler and instead Kuldeep Yadav would include Kuldeep Yadav in the team. Also, Nitish Reddy should get a chance to play in place of Shardul.”
