IND vs Eng: Team India has suffered a major setback on the first day of the fourth Test match between India and England at the Old Trafford ground in Manchester. Wicketkeeper batsman Rishabh Pant has been retired and retired. The injury was so serious that he was immediately rushed to the hospital by ambulance, where he is being scanned. This injury has affected the strategy of the Indian team and now the big question has arisen whether any other batsman can replace Rishabh Pant?
How did Rishabh Pant hurt?
In the 68th over of the Indian innings, Pant was trying to play reverse sweep on the fourth ball of England fast bowler Chris Woakes, but the ball was missed by his bat and went straight to his right leg. The ball was so fast that Pant sat there and was seen moaning with pain. Immediately the physio rushed to the ground and gave him first aid and after some time Pant was taken in an ambulance and taken to the hospital. According to reports, Pant had a complaint of swelling and bleeding in his leg and he was not able to give weight on the leg.
Rishabh Pant has been scanned, but the report has not come yet. Only after the scan report, it will be decided whether he will be able to play in this Test match ahead. If everything is right in the scan, then Pant can get down to bat on the second day, because he has retired.
Retired Heart vs Retired Out, What is the difference?
Retired Heart- If a batsman leaves the field after injury, he can return to bat again.
Retired out- If a player is declared a retired out, he cannot bat again.
Rishabh Pant’s case is of retired heart, so he can return to the field again when he is fit.
What do rules say?
According to the rules of the ICC, batting replacement is found only when the player gets a head injury. If a player suffers head injury and complains of confusion, dizziness or blurred, then he can be given a conversion substitute. In that case the player playing the same role is included in the team. Rishabh Pant is not in the head, not in the head, so India will neither get his batting subsidy nor a conversion substitute.
Can Dhruv Jurael do wicketkeeping?
Yes, if Pant is unable to fit, Dhruv Jurael can be launched as a substitute fielder. He can do wicketkeeping in England’s innings, but he will not be able to bat.
Lords was also injured in the test
This injury of Rishabh Pant is not the first time. Earlier in Lord’s Test too, he has suffered a finger injury during wicketkeeping. He returned to Manchester after recovering from that injury, but now a new injury has increased the concern.
Team India’s position in first day game
India batted first after losing the toss and ended the day at a score of 264 runs for 4 wickets.
KL Rahul- 46 runs
Yashasvi Jaiswal- 58 runs
Sai Sudarshan- 61 runs
Shubman Gill- 12 runs
Rishabh Pant- 37 runs (retired heart)
Ravindra Jadeja- 19 runs unbeaten
Shardul Thakur- 19 runs unbeaten
Yashasvi and Rahul shared a 94-run opening partnership, while Sai Sudarshan has made a great comeback on number-3.
At present, Team India’s medical team is waiting for Pant’s scan report. If a fracture or muscle damage comes out in the report, then Pant can also be excluded from the series. This will be a big shock for the team, especially when India is playing to make an edge in the series.
