Team India’s vice-captain and middle order batsman Shreyas Iyer has been declared completely fit by BCCI. According to media reports, the medical team of the Center of Excellence is satisfied with his recovery. Earlier it was believed that he might have to undergo a fitness test till the last moment before the match, but seeing his performance in domestic cricket, the board already gave him clearance.
How was the injury caused?
Shreyas Iyer was injured while playing an ODI match against Australia in October last year. His spleen was injured due to a fall while fielding in Sydney. For this reason he was admitted to the hospital. Due to which he had to be deprived of playing cricket for about three months. His rehabilitation after the injury took a long time and he could not return to international cricket directly.
Strong comeback in domestic cricket
Shreyas Iyer proved both his fitness and form while returning from domestic cricket. While captaining Mumbai in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, he played a brilliant innings against Himachal Pradesh. Batting at number four, Shreyas scored 82 runs in just 53 balls. Seeing his movement, timing and shot selection during this aggressive innings, the medical team was convinced that he is now completely fit.
Playing eleven will be affected
With the return of Shreyas Iyer, a new discussion has started regarding the playing eleven of Team India. Shubman Gill will captain this series against New Zealand. In the absence of Iyer, Ruturaj Gaikwad got the chance at number four and he capitalized on this opportunity well. Gaikwad had strengthened his claim by scoring a brilliant century. However, now with the return of Shreyas, Gaikwad will not be included.
