After the crushing 61-run defeat against India in the T20 World Cup 2026, former Pakistan fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar has fiercely targeted the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and its leadership. After Pakistan’s defeat in this match played at R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo, Akhtar has raised serious questions on the team management strategy and the decisions of the board.
While talking to ABP News, Akhtar said that Pakistan cricket is currently going in the wrong direction and the policies of the board are responsible for this. He raised questions on PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi and said that if the leadership is not strong then the performance of the team will also be affected.
‘We win matches not by making stars, but by performance’
Akhtar especially raised questions on those senior players who have been getting continuous opportunities in the team for a long time but are not able to live up to the expectations in big matches. He said that some players have been made stars without performing and this has become the biggest weakness of the team.
According to the former Pakistani fast bowler, the team’s balance is deteriorating due to lack of transparency in the selection process and wrong decisions. He warned that giving big responsibility to an unqualified person in any organization is the biggest mistake and it affects the entire system.
Giving responsibility to the wrong person causes harm
Akhtar said that when an inexperienced or incompetent person is appointed to an important position, he can harm the entire country. He believes that the effect of the decisions being taken in the cricket board is now directly visible on the field and the morale of the team is also falling.
Pakistan’s position weak in Group A
After losing to India, Pakistan has now reached third place in the points table of Group A. The team currently has 4 points in its account, while America is also above them with the same number of points.
‘Do or die’ match against Namibia
Pakistan’s last group stage match will now be played against Namibia. This match is very important for Pakistan to make a place in Super-8. If the team is not able to win this match, then there may be a danger of being out of the tournament.
Amidst the continuous poor record against India and internal disputes within the board, the Pakistan cricket team now faces a big challenge to save its reputation. The upcoming match will decide whether the team crumbles under pressure or comes back strongly.
