Shubman Gill is officially out of the India vs South Africa 2nd Test. He went off the field due to a neck injury on the second day of the first Test played in Kolkata. There was already doubt over the playing of Gill, who arrived with the team in Guwahati, but now BCCI has confirmed it by issuing a statement. In his absence, Rishabh Pant will be the captain.
BCCI said in its statement, “Team India captain Shubman Gill, who suffered a neck injury during the first Test against South Africa, has been ruled out of the second Test to be held in Guwahati. Gill suffered a neck injury on the second day of the Kolkata Test and after the end of the day’s play, he was taken to the hospital for examination. He was kept under observation and discharged the next day. He went to Guwahati on November 19, 2025. Unfortunately. “He was not fully fit to play in the second Test and will go to Mumbai for further investigation on his injury. Rishabh Pant will captain the team in the second Test in Gill’s absence.”
