Shubman Gill has been ruled out of the India vs South Africa second Test to be held in Guwahati. Gill felt neck pain in the Kolkata Test, due to which he had to retire hurt and leave the field. He could not bat even in the second innings. According to the report of Indian Express, Gill has been ruled out of the second test, in his absence Rishabh Pant will take charge of the team.

Shubman Gill was missed in the Kolkata Test, where Team India lost by 30 runs while chasing the target of 124 runs. Today itself BCCI issued an official statement regarding Gill saying that he is reaching Guwahati with the team but the decision on his playing is yet to be taken.

This player may get a chance in playing 11

In the first Test also, in the absence of Shubman Gill, Rishabh Pant took command, he is the vice-captain. 26-year-old Pant will captain in the second test also, while due to Gill’s exclusion, Sai Sudarshan may get a chance in the playing 11.

BCCI had said in its statement released on Wednesday, “Team India captain Shubman Gill suffered a neck injury on the second day of the Kolkata Test against South Africa and after the end of the day’s play, he was taken to the hospital for examination. He was kept under observation and discharged the next day. Gill is recovering rapidly and will go to Guwahati with the team on November 19, 2025.”

Team India has to win the second test at any cost

India is behind 0-1 in the 2-match Test series. Now to avoid series defeat, Team India has to win in Guwahati at any cost. Because even with a draw, South Africa will win the series. Let us tell you that Temba Bavuma has never lost any test as captain till now. He captained 11 matches, out of which South Africa won 10 and ended in a draw. Now India will have to break this record of Bavuma to end the series on par.
