IND vs SA Test: Team India’s 30-run defeat in the India-South Africa first Test played at Eden Gardens has shaken the entire cricket world. After this shameful defeat on the home pitch, not only the fans but also the veteran cricketers are strongly criticizing Team India. Former England captain Michael Vaughan took aim at coach Gautam Gambhir’s words and said, “If you make such a pitch, you deserve to lose.”
Vaughan’s sharp attack, ‘Deserve to lose’
India’s second innings collapsed at 93 while chasing the small target of 124 runs. After this, Michael Vaughan wrote on social media, “By preparing such a pitch, you deserve to lose against the World Test Champions. Great victory for South Africa.”
Vaughan has been criticizing Indian pitches for a long time, but after this match his anger became more intense. In the match, the ball was bouncing like a tennis ball, the wicket was giving uneven bounce and on the very next day the ball was rotating 90 degrees.
Gautam Gambhir’s counterattack
After the match was over, coach Gautam Gambhir clearly said that he would not point a finger at the pitch. Gambhir said, “We got the pitch we asked for. If we don’t play on a turning pitch, we are sure to lose. Blaming the pitch will do nothing.”
According to him, the curator prepared exactly the wicket as the team management wanted. Gambhir believes that the team did not bat according to the conditions and due to this the match got lost.
How did the match turn?
On the first day, South Africa was out for just 159 runs. India also took a slight lead of 30 runs. After this it seemed that the match was in India’s hands, but Temba Bavuma’s 50 runs in the second innings and India’s weak batting changed the whole picture.
India had an easy target of 124 runs, but the entire team collapsed for 93 runs. Washington Sundar played a useful inning of 31 runs. Akshar Patel also contributed 26 runs. Whereas the rest of the Indian batsmen could not even touch the figure of 20. Shubman Gill could not bat in the second innings due to neck injury. After that the back of the team was completely broken.
harmer’s havoc
South African off-spinner Simon Harmer took 4-4 wickets in both the innings. He continuously troubled the Indian batsmen and made the match one-sided.
