IND vs SA: Will India lose Guwahati also due to this mistake of Gautam Gambhir? Kolkata is making ‘mistake’ again

In the Kolkata Test, the Indian team entered with 4 spin bowling options. His strategy backfired, as South Africa counterattacked and won by 30 runs. This happened for the first time in 66 years when Team India could not even score 200 runs in both the innings of a test match. The spinners wreaked such havoc on the Eden Gardens pitch that the first Test could not last even for 3 days. The pitch of the first Test was heavily criticized, but Gautam Gambhir said that he had demanded a similar pitch from the pitch curator. Now a media report has claimed that Gambhir is relying on turning wickets for the second test also.

According to a report in Times of India, the Indian team may once again demand a turning pitch. For the first time, a Test match will be played at Baraspara Stadium, which is also the home ground of BCCI head curator Ashish Bhowmik. The report also revealed that after this demand of Team India, there is an atmosphere of concern within the BCCI, because giving a turning pitch in the very first match at this ground can lead to negative reactions.

A BCCI source said, “The pitch here is made of red soil, which can have more speed and bounce. The Indian team had made its demand clear even before the start of the series that if there is a turn in the pitch, the ball will turn with bounce and speed. The curators are trying to ensure that there is no abnormal bounce in the pitch.”

What did Gautam Gambhir say on the Guwahati pitch?

While talking about the Guwahati pitch in the press conference on Sunday, Gautam Gambhir had said, “We have always said that the turning wicket should be where there is not much turn on the first day, so that the toss does not prove to be a big factor. We never said that we want to play on a bad pitch or on a turning pitch. Had we won the first Test, perhaps there would not have been so much discussion about the pitch.”
