A good news has emerged for India amid the ongoing tariff dispute with the Trump administration. America has given permission to India to sell advanced weapons worth 93 million dollars, i.e. about Rs 775 crore. This decision is being considered as a strong sign of the growing strategic partnership between the two countries.

This deal is going to provide the Indian Army with two modern weapons whose combat capability has been proven worldwide, which includes Javelin anti-tank missile and Excalibur precision-guided artillery rounds.

Why is Javelin missile special?

Javelin missile is counted among the world’s most effective anti-tank missile systems. Its range is up to 4 kilometers and it has a success record of more than 90 percent against tanks. Top-attack capability and fire-and-forget technology make it a highly reliable weapon in the modern battlefield. Due to these features, the Javelin missile will give the Indian Army a huge advantage in countering the enemy’s armored deployment.

Artillery System Capability

The capability of any artillery system depends on two things. How far can it hit and how much damage can it cause to the target. Range is important, but the final decision on the battlefield is made by the warhead. For this reason M982 Excalibur is given a special status in the world of precision artillery. This is a shell which not only hits the target accurately, but due to the different types of warheads, it can be used in any kind of situation.

Excalibur’s high-explosive blast-fragmentation warhead makes it extremely effective against concrete fortifications, underground bunkers and thick concrete structures. This shell does not disintegrate like normal artillery shells, but hits the exact point with the help of GPS-guidance. Excalibur is also used with a sensor-fused warhead that destroys enemy tanks by attacking from above. This method is considered very effective in modern warfare, because the roof of any tank is its weakest layer.

Cluster-type bomblet installation option

There is also an option to install cluster-type bomblets within the Excalibur. Due to this, a single shell can cause damage to a large area. It is often used to block enemy artillery guns, support vehicles, temporary ammunition depots, and to block advancing troops simultaneously. GPS-guidance and the feature of preventing the spread of gunpowder make it dangerous.

Precise strikes on hidden targets, ATGM teams and snipers

Due to the Sensor-Fused Munition, Excalibur can engage not only against heavy formations but also against small and dangerous teams with shooter-level accuracy. Sniper positions, machine gunners, ATGM launch teams. All these increase the strength of the enemy and are often not seen in the open. Excalibur’s precision technology can destroy them despite remaining hidden.
