Bangladesh wants to interact with India
According to the report of news agency ANI, Bashiruddin said that Bangladesh has not yet received any official message from India. He said, “After getting formal information, we will take appropriate steps. If an issue arises, both sides will discuss it and find a solution to it.”
The ANI report quoted him as saying, “We have shown from social media and news that they (India) have taken some decisions regarding land ports, especially Akhaura and Dawki ports. Our aim is to increase competition, which is mutually beneficial for both countries.”
India implemented the import of these equals of Bangladesh
India has banned the import of many items including readymade garments, carbonated drinks, snacks, cotton and cotton threads from Bangladesh through roadways. Earlier, Bangladesh had banned the import of thread from the ground routes from India. India also canceled the trans-showing facility for export of goods to third countries from Bangladesh.
What did Bangladesh say about the textile industry?
Regarding trans-showing and textile imports, Bashiruddin said that Bangladesh’s exports are based on domestic capacity and not on trans-showing routes. He said, “India is a rich country in the textile sector. When these products are exported from our country, it is based on our abilities. We are geographically connected countries, so many things including competition, transportation costs are fixed among us. Such issues can be solved in the best way through negotiations.”
India’s decision to ban import from Bangladesh may affect goods worth $ 770 million (Rs 6,600 crore) coming through the cross border trade point in neighboring country. India is the second largest trading partner in Bangladesh after China. In FY 2022-23, Bangladesh-India trade was around $ 16 billion.
