India Coal Production: India has crossed the record of one billion tonnes of coal production in FY 2024-25. Prime Minister Narendra Modi described this achievement as a moment of pride for the country and said that this energy shows India’s commitment towards security and self -sufficiency.

Indeed, coal is mainly used as power generation and fuel in industries. It is the main energy source for the fifth largest economy in the world. In 2023-24 (April 2023 – March 2024), India produced 99.783 million tonnes of coal.

Union Coal and Mining Minister Girish Kishan Reddy also appreciated this achievement and credited the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Modi. G. Kishan Reddy, reacting to this achievement, said that it will meet India’s growing power demand. Will speed up economic growth. Also, a bright future will be ensured for every Indian.

Coal sector important role in India
According to the official data released by the Ministry of Coal, India is the fifth largest coal reserves in the world and the second largest consumer. Coal contributes 55% to national energy consumption, making it an essential resource for energy security.

Future plans of coal ministry
The Ministry of Coal for FY 2024-25 aims to produce 108 million tonnes of coal production/lift. With this achievement, India’s energy supply will be strengthened and economic development will gain further momentum.
