US expert Fareed Zakaria has strongly criticized US President Donald Trump’s policy of increasing distance from India and getting closer to Pakistan. He described India as a sovereign, self-reliant and democratic country, whereas Pakistan’s policies have always been influenced by external forces. Fareed Zakaria says that Trump has ruined the relations built between India and America over three decades.
Fareed Zakaria is a famous American journalist and international affairs analyst. Speaking on CNN, he said that Donald Trump in his second term has caused huge damage to the decades-old carefully crafted policy of relations between India and America.
Farid said, ‘India is the only country that can balance China economically and militarily, but Trump has reversed 30 years of patient diplomacy with India. By pleasing Pakistan, Trump has angered India without any real benefit. He said that Donald Trump has disappointed India by repeatedly and publicly praising Pakistan which is dependent on Chinese weapons.
Fareed Zakaria also says that these decisions of Trump are not only going to anger India, but America is also not going to get any strategic benefit from them. He said that if praising Trump was an Olympic game, Pakistan would definitely have been the winner.
Fareed Zakaria says that the way Trump has embraced Pakistan, it was a sign that Washington has lost the balance of its strategic priorities in South Asia. Fareed Zakaria said that Pakistan’s governments have always been inclined towards powerful countries in international forums, while India has adopted a democratic and independent foreign policy. He said that Pakistan has often decided its policies under the influence of external powers.
Fareed Zakaria said that in three decades, relations between India and America were gradually progressing on the basis of trust, cooperation and shared strategic interests, be it defense partnership, technological cooperation or joint efforts to balance China’s influence in the Indo-Pacific region, but all this has changed in the Trump era.
