Before Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s proposed visit to Israel, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has openly praised India. Addressing a conference of Major American Jewish Organization in Jerusalem, Netanyahu described the relations between India and Israel as a tremendous alliance. Netanyahu said that the Prime Minister of India is going to come to Israel next week and the two countries will discuss all kinds of cooperation. Referring to India’s population of 1.5 billion, he said that Israel is very popular in India.

Prime Minister Modi can visit Israel this month. Although the official date has not been announced, but there are indications that he may visit Israel on 27-28 February after the AI ​​Summit to be held in New Delhi. This visit can give a new direction to cooperation in the fields of strategy, defence, cyber security and technology. This will be the first visit to Israel of Prime Minister Modi’s third term. Earlier he had gone to Israel in 2017. That historic visit took place on the occasion of completion of 25 years of diplomatic relations between the two countries. During that time, important discussions were held on defense cooperation, agriculture, water management, cyber security and anti-terrorism partnership.

Discussion on regional and global issues also possible

In the upcoming meeting, both the leaders can discuss bilateral cooperation as well as the current security situation of West Asia and global issues. There were talks between the two leaders at the beginning of the year also, in which peace efforts related to Gaza and regional stability were discussed. In that conversation, Prime Minister Modi had reiterated India’s support for a just and durable peace.

Strong personal and diplomatic relations

Good relations are also considered between Modi and Netanyahu at the personal level. In the last years, both the leaders have shown closeness to each other on many forums. This possible visit may prove to give new energy to India-Israel relations. Cooperation is expected to deepen further in important areas like defence, technology, innovation and regional security.
